Hello & Welcome !

This section is devoted to those things in life which I consider fun. This set is by no means exhaustive (would be extremely narrow-minded), but is restricted to those topics which are more or less directly connected with the computer anyway, since I feel no urge to spread out my private life in general on the WorldWideWeb -- more than enough people do so already ...

So, have fun with the following topics, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

You might also want to have a look at my other (at least partly English) homepage at the Technical University of Berlin.

This is a subpage of my CNL homepage. Go there, if your interest is rather on the academic side.

Finally, a page which everybody should reference:
The Digital Freedom Network.

Cycling

is one of my great hobbies.

During the three months prior to my departure from San Diego back to Berlin, I cycled across the USA, from Lubec (Maine) in the very north-eastern corner back to San Diego in the south-west.

And now there is a second USA-cycling tour coming up: Starting July 1st 2001 I will cycle through the USA for another 4 months, starting in Vancouver, just beyond the Canadian border, then down the coast to San Diego and across Canyon Country do New Orleans.

The first US-tour has inspired a vast number of ideas for topics about long distance cycling in general and this tour in particular, which I am certain will be helpful and/or interesting to other (future) cyclists. I therefore put up a Long Distance Cycling Page at GeoCities, which I believe to be not only interesting, but potentially very helpful to anybody who whishes to do a long(er) cycling tour and does not have any or only little previous experience in this field.
On my different tours through France, Spain, Italy, Germany and now the USA I have met a lot of other cyclists - and seen a lot of unneccassary "beginner's mistakes" with unpleasant consequences. But experienced cyclists who plan to "do" the States might well find interesting informations here, too.

Have a great trip - and may the pedal be with you ...

Photos

I have scanned some collections of photos, and since I have some experience as an amateur photographer, I think I can say, they are a little more than just snapshots. So far, you have access to the following:

Some interesting WWW-pages:

dictionaries (mainly English)
A complete HTML-Overview,
and along with that a list of all special characters
and now, keeping up to date, also an excellent intro for JavaScript
useful stuff from Karlsruhe
The Virtual Tourist
The Internet Movie Database

HTML and JavaScript stuff

This is a purely experimental area. So do not complain if there is nothing here, or nothing seems to work - rather be surprised if there happens to be something here that actually does something ...

P.S.: The first part of the last sentence is still valid, but I have meanwhile experimented with JavaScript quite a bit, so it shouldn't be surprising anymore, if quite a few things do indeed work ;-)

To see how this works, please just download this HTML-document (for Netscape users: View - Document Source). I don't want to have the code directly displayed, here.

How to provide information in such a way, that it is only displayed upon request? This is the way:
(Also, try entering "key" in the "key:"-field when the "... now you don't" shows ...)

key:

Actually, you don't even need to use a button: This an alternative possibility:
(Alternatingly click in the field, then someplace outside, then in it again, and so forth. "key:" works just as above.)
